SUMMARY:
Breakthrough provides a path from middle school to college for students who will be first-generation college graduates. Founded in 2001, Breakthrough Austin annually admits more than 60 middle school students and makes a long term commitment to their success in school. The program includes summer sessions at the University of Texas, school year support and advocacy, and comprehensive college counseling. The program currently serves over 380 students, including students in grades seven through twelve and those in college. Breakthrough’s first class of students graduated from high school in 2008.
Breakthrough Austin seeks a talented, enthusiastic, and detailed-oriented team member who will work collaboratively with the entire Breakthrough team to help manage and maintain our informational infrastructure. The Information Manager will work across the organization to ensure that Breakthrough can continue to produce high quality and continuously improving programs and services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain relationships with a diverse group of low-income, students and families
- Assist Director of Operations in managing electronic and physical information infrastructure
- Support AmeriCorps program planning, design, and implementation
- Help maintain and track AmeriCorps paperwork requirements
- Assist Director of Operations in ensuring AmeriCorps policy compliance
- Assist Executive Director in coordinating schedules, meetings, and correspondence
- Manage logistics related to facility maintenance
- Help support IT needs of Breakthrough team members
- Support program and development efforts
- Support and manage volunteers, interns, and other service providers, including tutors, mentors, counselors, etc.
- Assist Executive Team (Executive Director, Director of Programs, Director of Operations, and Director of Development) as needed
- Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization
- Bachelors’ degree from an accredited four-year university
- Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Spanish bilingual preferred
- Expertise in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel required; additional IT experience beneficial
- Ability to work with and motivate a broad spectrum of people (ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, professional, and generational)
- Ability to remain flexible in the face of multiple priorities
- Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team effort and independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness and ability to take initiative as appropriate
- Strong desire to learn and grow professionally
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and deliver commitments in a timely manner
- Disciplined, strong work ethic and comfort with working non-standard hours (weekends and evenings)
HOURS:
- Breakthrough is a fast-paced, needs-responsive environment. While office hours can be flexible, full-time employees typically work more than 40 hours per week on a regular basis.
- Some evening and weekend work is required
